Assignment #22

As many of you may know, my capstone project is coming together. There are only but a few months left before I must present it and until then I will be working hard to create a well-developed project. This week, I decided to create a survey and asked some of my friends and family members to take it honestly so I could gather some input and data regarding how the public views school psychology. I incorporated questions such as “Have you ever been diagnosed with a learning disability before?”. Although I have decided to keep my survey available to the … Continue reading Assignment #22

Assignment #19

As many of my readers may know, for the Honors Mentorship Program I must present a capstone project at the end of the year. This project is the main reason why I am researching school psychology and working with school psychologists at the Board of Education. For this week’s assignment, I am to write a written proposal answering questions provided by my teacher. Below is the written proposal: The main reason I am conducting this research is because I have an interest in the field of psychology but the field of psychology can be very broad. For this week’s assignment, I conducted an interview with a school psychologist that I work with. Considering I will soon have to create my capstone project, I asked the school psychologist questions I felt would be valuable for my project. Below is the interview transcript:   Question 1: Why did you decide to become a school psychologist? Answer: “I wanted to be helpful. I wanted to do something that would make a difference. It sounds very cliche but I had a degree in psychology and in education and this seemed to be the best marriage of both worlds.” Reflection/Response: Although … Continue reading Assignment #18

Assignment #17

Before I started interning at the Board of Education, I often thought about what to expect when working in the field of psychology. After working there for a several months, a few assumptions that I had have been confirmed and denied. I assumed that much of the work psychologists do is paperwork. In fact, I learned that school psychologists only complete testing of a student and then complete paperwork but conduct no counseling for students because it is not the nature of a school psychologist. However, I also assumed certain things and was wrong about some of my assumptions. I assumed … Continue reading Assignment #17

My Essential Question:

The question I have created is “How can school psychologists implement psychology into an educational and developmental setting?”, and I decided to use this as my question because it requires some critical thinking to come up with a substantial answer, and it also it ties strongly to the knowledge that I have gained through my internship. Furthermore, I will need to continue observing school psychologists to understand their impact and what they bring to the table as far as helping children with learning and developmental problems. By doing so, I will be able to answer the question after being able to see … Continue reading My Essential Question:

Assignment #15: Reflection

This week, I read an article by Tim Elmore regarding problems with teens and young adults in the workplace. He explains how he has met numerous job candidates who are young adults that have no knowledge of how to make a good impression and they are not professional in the workplace. Millennials, in today’s society, can be considered loud and self-absorbed in the eyes of business professionals. They do not want to change their appearance, even if it is unprofessional or inappropriate, to satisfy the needs of the employer and they lack job etiquette. This is because many parents and teachers have … Continue reading Assignment #15: Reflection
